Crazy about Bird Crazy!

I absolutely LOVE the new Tim Holtz stamp set Bird Crazy. I have had so much fun trying to figure out fun ways to use these crazy birds on my cards. They are kind of 'sad' looking so I'm still trying to come up with ideas!! Here are a few that I have made so far.

This one was lots of fun! I stamped the image on watercolor paper with Versafine ink then used my distress inks to color it. I freehand cut the little graduation cap, added a ribbon and a few sequins. The background paper is from an old book. The sentiments are from two different sets..
I also stamped this one on watercolor paper, colored it with my distress inks then fussy-cut the bird out. I punched flowers from coordinating colors, attached them with mounting squares and added a liquid pearl center to most of them. The stamped the sentiment with Versamark Ink and embossed with white detail powder. I also added glossy accents to the eyes.

Another card using a distressed page from a book as my background. I stamped the bird on watercolor paper, colored with distress inks and again I fussy-cut it out. I stamped the second smaller bird directly onto the background paper. The sentiments are from a Stephanie Bernard set.

For my last card, I used a watercolor technique for the background and stamped the dots with coordinating distress ink. Again I colored the bird with distress inks and fussy-cut. The sentiment is made with my label-maker. I added a few sequin stars for special effect!! Love how this card turned out.

I can't wait to try out some more fun ideas with these Crazy Birds!! Thank you Tim Holtz for a great stamp set!

I just stumbled onto your blog. These are truly unique and well crafted works of art. My eye was immediately drawn to the whimsical bird in the "a little birdie told me" card. I have a collection of fine and old books and felt the addition on the parchment like text was a deft touch. I would caution the artist to read the attached text prior to inclusion.
While the words aren't offensive or vulgar; the topics of war, death, slaves, mourning, tombstones and "young naked boys" don't spring to my mind as an appropriate happy birthday sentiment. With such a keen eye trained to the art I would encourage the big picture eye to detail as well.

Respectfully,
A Friend

Good point Anonymous. I guess I didn't distress it enough and I definitely see what you are referring to. I will be much more careful and will take a more careful look at the old papers that I am using. I bought these at an antique shop...and it was only portions of each book. I try to be careful about that but obviously missed this one completely! Thank you for your observant eye and your willingness to say something!

I weighed commenting heavily. I didn't want to offend a sister in Christ. I am so pleased you read my true intent.

Be Well.
